AIOU has extended its Autumn 2026 admission deadline for Matric, FA, Associate Degree, B.Ed, PGD and Certificate programmes. Here's what students need to know before the window closes.

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has pushed back the closing date for its Autumn 2026 admissions, giving students who missed the original cutoff one more chance to enrol. The university's admission advertisement from the Directorate of Admissions lists 5 October 2026 as the new last date for submitting fresh admission forms with a late fee, though several news outlets have reported the extended window running through 6 October 2026. Either way, the message for students is the same: the clock is almost up, and this is very likely the final extension before the Autumn semester intake closes for good.

The extension applies specifically to Matric, FA, Associate Degree (AD), B.Ed, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Certificate Courses. If you are applying to a BS, MS, MPhil or PhD programme, this particular extension does not concern you — those admission cycles run on separate schedules, so check AIOU's programme-specific notices rather than assuming the same deadline applies.

    Who this matters to

AIOU exists precisely for students who cannot attend a conventional, in-person institution — working adults completing their Matric or FA years after leaving school, teachers upgrading their qualification with a B.Ed, or professionals adding a postgraduate diploma to their CV. If you fall into any of these categories and have been putting off your Autumn 2026 application, this extension is the opportunity to act before the window finally shuts.

    How to apply

Fresh applicants for most programmes, including Matric, FA, AD, B.Ed and Certificate courses, should start at the university's online admission portal at fmbp.aiou.edu.pk. The portal lets you select your programme, fill in personal and academic details, and generate a fee voucher. For students who prefer not to apply fully online, manual admission forms remain available for Matric, Intermediate, ADA, B.Ed and ATTC programmes from AIOU's regional offices and designated sale points across Pakistan.

If you are a continuing student re-registering for a new semester rather than applying fresh, use the separate enrollment portal at enrollment.aiou.edu.pk instead — do not use the fresh-admission portal, as the two systems serve different purposes.

    Paying your fee

Once your form is submitted, fee vouchers can be paid through several channels: over the counter at ABL, MCB, Faysal Bank (FWBL) and NBP branches, or digitally through Upaisa, Easypaisa, JazzCash and 1-Link. As an example of the fee structure, Matric-level admission starts at around Rs 4,100 for the first semester; exact fees vary by programme and level, so always confirm the amount shown on your own generated challan rather than relying on a figure you've seen elsewhere, since course combinations and credit hours change the total.

Because this is a late-fee window, expect to pay more than you would have during the regular admission period. AIOU has not published the exact late-fee surcharge in its public notice, so the safest approach is to generate your challan through the portal and check the total before paying, rather than guessing at the amount in advance.

Don't wait for a further extension

AIOU has already extended this deadline once. History suggests the university sometimes grants a short additional grace period when technical issues affect the portal, but planning around a hypothetical second extension is risky — if it doesn't materialise, you lose the semester entirely and have to wait for the next intake cycle. Submit your form, generate your challan and pay before the stated cutoff rather than leaving it to the last day, since bank and wallet payment confirmations can take time to reflect in the system.

If you hit a snag with the online portal or have questions about which programme track you qualify for, AIOU's helpline (051-111-112-468) is available for direct queries, and your nearest regional campus can also process manual forms on the spot.

For Beyond Taleem readers weighing distance learning against a conventional degree, AIOU remains one of the few options in Pakistan that lets you study at your own pace while working or managing family responsibilities — but only if you get your paperwork in before the window closes.
