The history of Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) dated back to pre-partition period as the university was formerly established as an intermediate college in 1934 . It was then promoted to a Degree College in the year 1944 .After four long decades in 1985, the postgraduate disciplines were introduced. Finally the institution was recognized as a degree awarding University on 3rd January 2013 . The university was located in a conventional set-up, in the serene atmosphere of Madina Town, yet, continuous struggles are being carried- out to craft state-of-the-art infrastructure through modernized academic blocks, up-to-date ICT or computer laboratories, female hostels, library, auditorium, play grounds, etc. The University presently contains two libraries. A main library and a post graduate library with diverse collection of books and other reading materials.
