Pakistani students can now apply for the fully funded Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027, which covers tuition, living costs, and airfare for postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge.
Pakistani students pursuing postgraduate study abroad have a new fully funded opportunity to consider: the Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027 at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Established through a donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, the scholarship supports around 80 students worldwide each year. It is open to citizens of any country outside the UK who are applying for an eligible postgraduate course at Cambridge, including PhD programmes, the MLitt, and select one-year postgraduate courses. Current Cambridge students are also permitted to apply if they are moving on to another eligible postgraduate course. The scholarship does not cover undergraduate degrees, MBA, MFin, BusD, PGCE, certain clinical medicine and medical degrees, non-degree courses, or part-time study outside of eligible PhD programmes.
Successful applicants receive full coverage of their Cambridge tuition fees, a maintenance allowance for living expenses, economy-class return airfare, and coverage of visa costs and the UK's Immigration Health Surcharge. Depending on individual circumstances and programme rules, scholars may also be able to access additional funding for academic conferences, fieldwork, dependent children, maternity or paternity needs, and unexpected financial hardship.
To apply, candidates must first select an eligible postgraduate course through Cambridge's graduate course directory, then complete the university's online admission application along with the Gates Cambridge funding section. This requires a roughly 500-word personal statement specifically for the Gates Cambridge scholarship, two academic references, and, for PhD applicants, a research proposal. All materials are submitted together through the university's Graduate Application Portal.
Deadlines vary by applicant category and course: US residents must apply by October 14, 2026, while other international applicants, including those from Pakistan, have until December 8, 2026 or January 6, 2027, depending on their chosen course and funding round. Applicants are advised to confirm the exact deadline that applies to their specific course and category before applying, along with full eligibility requirements, strong academic achievement being a key selection criterion.
