All eight Khyber Pakhtunkhwa boards have called off the Matric Annual-II papers for a second time, with no new date yet set, as authorities cite an ongoing emergency in the province.

All eight Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including those covering the merged tribal districts, have postponed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual-II Examinations 2026 for a second time, leaving thousands of Class 9 and Class 10 students without a confirmed exam date. The papers were originally due to begin on October 7 but were pushed back after the first four exams were deferred because of disruption linked to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march passing through the province. The boards then rescheduled the exams to begin on Monday, October 12, but that restart was also cancelled. In their latest notification, the boards cited a "prevailing emergency situation" in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said a revised examination schedule would be issued at a later date, without specifying when. The disruption has had a broader effect on daily life in several districts. Local administrations in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshehra, Charsadda, Swat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, and Karak ordered schools, colleges, and universities to close. Educational institutions, including Kohat University of Science and Technology, also remained shut in Kohat, even though some nearby districts such as Hangu, Orakzai, and Kurram kept their schools open. Students and parents in the affected boards are advised to keep checking official board websites and notices for the new exam dates once they are announced, since no timeline has yet been confirmed.
