Pakistani students heading to Master's or PhD programmes in Japan can apply for the Honjo International Scholarship 2027, which offers a monthly stipend and closes on 31 October 2026.

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation has opened its 2027 scholarship cycle, offering funding to international students, including Pakistanis, pursuing Master's or PhD degrees at graduate schools in Japan. The scholarship is open to non-Japanese citizens of any nationality who are either already enrolled in or planning to begin study at a Japanese graduate school in 2027, in any research field. Applicants are expected to have basic conversational ability in Japanese. Unlike many similar programmes, the Honjo scholarship does not require nomination or pre-selection by a university; candidates apply directly to the Foundation online. Around 10 scholarships are expected to be awarded in this cycle. Recipients receive a monthly stipend that varies by the length of their programme: ¥230,000 for one- to two-year degrees, ¥210,000 for three-year degrees, and ¥180,000 for four- to five-year degrees. The scholarship covers monthly living allowances and can include support for conference participation, but it does not cover tuition fees, initial travel costs, or airfare. Applications opened on 1 September 2026 and will close on 31 October 2026. Document screening results are expected on 31 January 2027, followed by interviews on 9 February 2027 and final results on 31 March 2027. Pakistani students who are currently enrolled in or planning to join a Japanese graduate programme in 2027 are encouraged to review the Foundation's application requirements and submit their materials before the October deadline.
