The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has pushed the National Registration Examination Step-I back from October 11 to November 8, 2026, citing unavoidable circumstances.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has rescheduled the National Registration Examination (NRE) Step-I, moving the test from its originally planned date of October 11, 2026, to November 8, 2026. Both dates fall on a Sunday. PMDC announced the change on October 6, attributing the postponement to unavoidable circumstances without giving further detail. The NRE Step-I is aimed at Pakistani medical and dental graduates who hold foreign qualifications. The exam evaluates whether their medical or dental knowledge meets Pakistan's national competency standards, and passing it is a required step before these graduates can practice or obtain full medical registration in the country. PMDC described it as one part of a multi-phase pathway that foreign-qualified practitioners must complete to be authorized to work as General Practitioners in Pakistan. The rescheduled examination will once again be conducted by the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) in Rawalpindi. PMDC has instructed candidates to regularly check its official website, www.pmdc.pk, for further updates, including the release of roll numbers and test center locations. The council also urged applicants to use the additional time before November 8 to intensify their exam preparation, and reminded them to strictly follow all examination guidelines once details are released.
