The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has rejected social media claims of a relaxed eligibility threshold, confirming that candidates still need at least 60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification to pursue MBBS or BDS.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has issued a statement clarifying that the intermediate marks requirement for admission to MBBS and BDS programs remains unchanged, after unverified claims began circulating online suggesting the threshold had been reduced.
According to the council, candidates must still secure a minimum of 60 percent marks in FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent Higher Secondary School Certificate qualification to be eligible for admission. The statement specifically rules out any relaxation to 50 percent or any other lower figure that had been suggested in social media posts and online forums. PM&DC said the rumors had caused confusion among students who had recently completed their intermediate exams and sat the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), prompting the council to step in and urge students to rely only on official notifications rather than unverified claims.
The 60 percent threshold applies uniformly across both public and private sector medical and dental colleges throughout Pakistan, with the council noting that private institutions are just as legally bound to the requirement as public ones. Admissions committees at these colleges are required to verify applicants' intermediate mark sheets during credential scrutiny, and the council said any application falling short of 60 percent will be disqualified regardless of how well the candidate performed on the MDCAT.
Students applying with foreign qualifications, such as A-Levels, must obtain an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) showing a score of at least 60 percent to meet the same standard. The council also reiterated that passing the MDCAT remains mandatory under current national policy, and that candidates must separately comply with provincial and federal seat quotas and domicile rules during the admission process.
Students and parents are advised to verify eligibility criteria directly through PM&DC's official channels rather than relying on information shared through social media.
