Initially the fund and land, for the establishment of this institute, were provided by Nawab Allah Nawaz Khan who also served himself as the first vice-chancellor of this university. 11000 Kn agricultural land for the establishment of this university was provided by Nawab. Under Act No. X of 1974 the university was categorized as the public sector university of Pakistan.
