The History of PIEAS dates back to 1967, when there was an exponential increase in the industrial activities of Pakistan. In response to the increased industrialization of Pakistan, the institute was founded as a Reactor School in affiliation with the Quaid-e-Azam University based in Islamabad. By the year 1976 the Institute became Centre of Nuclear Studies. The Institute attained the status of a full-fledge University registered with the name of Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the year 1997. The University is currently an independent, autonomous degree awarding body. The well-designed, state-of-the-art campus of the PIEAS sprawls over 150 acres and is equipped with numerous facilities that foster the intellectual, physical and mental development of the students.
