UHS conducted MDCAT 2026 on 20 September 2026 and announced the result just four days later, on 24 September. Here's how many candidates qualified, how your merit score is actually calculated, and what to expect before the first MBBS/BDS merit list.

The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026 for Punjab was held on 20 September 2026, and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) announced the result just four days later, on 24 September 2026. If you or a family member sat the test, here is what the numbers actually show, how your aggregate score for MBBS or BDS admission will be worked out, and what the timeline looks like from here.

How Many Candidates Took the Test -- and Qualified

UHS registered 49,202 candidates for MDCAT 2026, of whom 47,475 actually appeared for the exam; 1,727 registered candidates were absent. Of those who appeared:

    • 37,708 candidates, or 79.43%, met the qualifying threshold for MBBS
    • 40,457 candidates, or 85.22%, met the qualifying threshold for BDS

The qualifying threshold itself is different for the two degree tracks: a minimum of 55% marks is required to qualify for MBBS, while BDS has a lower threshold of a minimum of 50% marks. This is why the BDS qualification rate is noticeably higher than the MBBS rate -- more candidates cleared the lower bar.

How Your Merit Score Is Actually Calculated

Qualifying for MDCAT does not by itself determine which college you get into -- that depends on your aggregate merit score, which blends three components:

    • 10% from your Matriculation (SSC) marks
    • 40% from your FSc/HSSC Pre-Medical marks
    • 50% from your MDCAT score

This weighting means your MDCAT performance carries the single largest share of your final aggregate, but it is not the whole picture -- a strong FSc percentage still meaningfully moves your aggregate, and even your matric result contributes a smaller but real 10% share. If you are estimating your own aggregate, calculate all three components rather than relying on your MDCAT score alone.

What Counts as a Competitive Aggregate

Based on recent admission cycles, aggregates for the most sought-after government medical colleges have typically closed in the high 80s to mid-90s percentage range, with some top institutions' open-merit cutoffs landing between roughly 89% and 94.4%, and competitive government colleges generally closing between 88% and 91%. Your own realistic target range depends heavily on your province, the specific college, and category (open merit, self-finance, or reserved seats), so treat these as a general sense of the competitive range rather than a guarantee for any specific college.

    What Happens Next

With the result now announced, admissions authorities shift their attention to merit list preparation and the college admission process. Based on how recent MDCAT cycles have typically played out, candidates should expect:

    1. Preference forms and access to the admission portal to open within days of the result announcement, allowing you to list your preferred medical and dental colleges in order.
    2. A first merit list, typically appearing in the early-to-mid weeks after the preference-form window closes -- historically this has landed around early-to-mid November following a late-September result, though the exact date is set separately by each province's admitting authority.
    3. One or more upgradation rounds afterward, as seats vacated by students who accept offers elsewhere become available to the next candidates on the merit list.

Important: Punjab's result and process run through UHS, but MDCAT admissions are provincial. Sindh runs through Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through Khyber Medical University (KMU), and Balochistan through Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS). If you are outside Punjab, follow your own province's admitting authority for your specific merit list and preference-form dates rather than assuming UHS's schedule applies to you.

    What to Do Right Now

    1. Calculate your own aggregate using the 10/40/50 formula above, using your actual Matric, FSc, and MDCAT marks, so you have a realistic number rather than relying on your MDCAT score alone.
    2. Check your provincial admitting authority's website regularly for the preference-form window and merit list dates, since these are announced separately from the MDCAT result itself.
    3. Prepare your college preference order in advance, informed by recent closing-merit ranges for your target colleges, so you can submit your preferences quickly once the portal opens.

    Bottom Line

The MDCAT 2026 result is out, with a strong majority of candidates qualifying for BDS and a solid majority qualifying for MBBS. The next real milestone is the merit list, which typically follows several weeks after the result -- so use this waiting period to calculate your real aggregate and finalise your college preferences rather than waiting until the list appears.
